Abstract

Background: One of the most pervasive issues which an educator faces is the ethical practices in exam that is cheating. Literature suggests that academic dishonesty is increasing day by day. After coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), online test supervision technology has been thrust into the spotlight. This article aims to analyze the risks of using online proctoring apps in educational settings.

Methodology: The literature focused on the knowledge, awareness, and ethical considerations of institutes about the use of online proctoring apps. The search was made on Google Scholar and PubMed with the key terms online proctor (OP), virtual exam, transparency, ethical issues, COVID-19.

Results: It was determined that the OP technologies can play vital role in such situations. It depends on institutions whether they want to use such kind of technologies or not. It is also seen that these technologies have ethical issues as there are some hidden things which users doesn’t know.

Conclusion: Educational institutes have mix and match reviews regarding OP technologis. Some institues have adopted this technology, where as some educational institutes have directly rejected the technology.
