Responsibilities of the Journal Editors

There are several National & International Editors professionally working on journals. The editorial board duties are distinguished and the roles and responsibilities of Editorial Board Members are provided in a short guide. We hope that the journal editorial board members, handling editors, and anyone who wants to understand the day-to-day work of a journal editor, will find it useful.

Editor In Chief is responsible to suggest and help to recruit suitable candidates for their Editorial Board and also supervises the editors of all departments. The final authority over what gets published in the journal remains with The Editor in-Chief. He guarantees that the peer review system is managed competently and with reliability. The Chief Editor two things:

  • the scientific validity of the content published in the journal
  • And is also responsible to investigate the cases of suspected research misconduct.

Managing Editor is predominantly responsible for in-house supervision and coordination among the editorial committee. Managing Editor is responsible for:

  • Monitoring and enforcing targets.
  • Generating deadlines
  • And maintaining the journal’s consistency.

Furthermore, the managing editor can hire, promote, and also fire any of the staff members.

Senior Editors determine the publishing quality of the journals. Their duties also include

  • The in-house quality check of each manuscript submitted to the journal.
  • And also they are accountable for proofreading the final layout of each manuscript.
  • They also provide guidance regarding the print and online layout quality, publication, and distribution of the journal.

The editorial advisory board’s primary job is not to make editorial decisions, instead, they represent & promote the journal at meetings and conferences. The advisory board regulates the specific journal’s editorial policies.

Its members provide guides on journal performance, policies, scope, and development within their areas of expertise/interest and may be consulted on individual manuscripts for an editorial opinion or to suggest reviewers.

Associate Editors are also responsible to critically review the manuscripts both scientifically and technically. They are usually involved in the editing of one or more publications and their role varies according to their area of interest and experience in the research field.

Technical Editors work under the direction of the Managing editor. They are responsible for the technical and academic content of the journal in their assigned areas. The technical editor holds the overall responsibility for maintaining the professional integrity of the review process. They also determine that in-depth and timely reviews are obtained from knowledgeable scientists. Technical editors delegate the responsibility of correspondence with authors to obtain revisions as needed.
